Despite being less than two months underway in the 2025-26 season in Europe, a number of managers have already been relieved of their duties, with some of them having already found a new managerial job at another club. These managers include former Nottingham Forest (Premier League/EPL) manager Nuno Espírito Santo and former Fenerbahce (Turkish Süper Lig) manager José “The Special One” Mourinho. Since then, Santo and Mourinho have become the managers of EPL club West Ham United and Primeira Liga club SL Benfica, respectively.

With the 2025-26 season progressing, more high-profile managers have been relieved from their duties or resigned from their roles. Recent sackings include:

  • Ivan Jurić, from Serie A club Atalanta;

  • Frank Haise, from Ligue 1 club OGC Nice;

  • Ruben Amorim, from EPL club Manchester United;

  • Xabi Alonso, from LaLiga club Real Madrid;

  • Roberto De Zerbi, from Ligue 1 club Olympique de Marseille;

  • Thomas Frank, from EPL club Tottenham Hotspur; and

  • Sean Dyche, from Nottingham Forest.

Moreover, at the turn of 2026, Enzo Maresca resigned from his managerial role at EPL club Chelsea; Liam Rosenior became Chelsea’s manager on January 8, prompting his resignation at sister-club RC Strasbourg and that club’s subsequent hiring of Gary O’Neil. As well, on January 12, 2026, Xabi Alonso and Real Madrid mutually parted ways following the club’s 3-2 Supercopa de España (Spanish Super Cup) final defeat against archrivals FC Barcelona.

That said, a lot of recently sacked managers remain free agents and undoubtedly have their “Open to Work” function activated on their LinkedIn profile.
