On May 30, 2026, Premier League (EPL) club Arsenal and Ligue 1’s Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) will compete in the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League (UCL) final, which will take place at Puskás Aréna in Budapest, Hungary.

This final features, in theory, the two best European clubs. Arsenal won the 2025-26 EPL title and PSG won the 2025-26 Ligue 1 title. This final constitutes a rematch of last year’s UCL semifinal, which PSG won 3-1 on aggregate. In the UCL final, PSG crushed Inter Milan 5-0, securing their first UCL title in club history.

The 2025-26 UCL final marks the eighth time that Arsenal and PSG will play against each other, including a sixth meeting in UCL. Although both clubs have each won two matches and drawn three more, PSG have won the last two, both of which were in last year’s UCL semifinal duel: 1-0 away and 2-1 at home.

This article previews the UCL final matchup with data-driven analysis and which player we consider to be each club’s most crucial piece for the final. It also includes both our own intuitive predictions and refers to Opta Analyst’s projections for the 2025-26 UCL title winner.

Arsenal FC

Performances in Domestic Competitions in 2025-26

  • Premier League ranking: 1st (85 points in 38 matches)

  • FA Cup: Quarterfinals (lost 2-1 away vs Southampton FC)

  • EFL Cup: Final (lost 2-1 vs Manchester City)

Performances in 2025-26 UEFA Champions League:

  • League stage finish: 1st (24 points in 8 matches, automatic qualification to the round of 16)

  • Round of 16: 3-1 on aggregate vs Bayer Leverkusen

  • Quarterfinals: 1-0 on aggregate vs Sporting CP

  • Semifinals: 2-1 on aggregate vs Atlético Madrid

Arsenal will be playing in their second UCL final in club history and are seeking a first major European trophy. Their previous UCL final appearance was in 2006, when they lost 2-1 against LaLiga club FC Barcelona.

This season in EPL action, Arsenal relied on their defensive solidity, discipline and set-piece efficiency to win the league. Although they did not lead the league in goals scored, The Gunnersconceded only 26, the fewest in the competition. They also excelled on dead-ball plays, producing 22 set-piece goals from throw-ins, corner kicks and free-kicks, plus four penalty-kick goals. Arsenal also maintained tactical discipline throughout the campaign, adhering closely to manager Mikel Arteta’s philosophy and finishing the season without accumulating a single red card (see also our 2025-26 Red Card Tracker) or conceding a single penalty — the first EPL club to achieve this feat.

In UCL, Arsenal mustered a perfect record in the league stage, winning all eight matches, including a decisive 3-1 home victory against 2nd-place, Bayern Munich, our tournament favourites. Across those eight matches, Arsenal led all 36 UCL participants in both goals scored (23) and goals against (4). In the knockout stage, The Gunners conceded only two goals in six matches, cruising into the final. It is worth noting, however, that Arsenal were on the weaker side of the bracket, with the only other serious title contenders being LaLiga clubs Atlético Madrid and FC Barcelona.

The Arsenal player to watch for the UCL final is Viktor Gyökeres. While it will be interesting to see how Arsenal’s midfield and defence collectively handle PSG’s relentless attack, the question is whether Gyökeres can break down a similarly disciplined PSG defence — especially if he is pushed wide and forced to rely on his pace against left-back Nuno Mendes and right-back Achraf Hakimi, who are arguably the two best full-backs/wing-backs in the world. His 14 EPL goals — a fourth-best this season — and five UCL goals in 2025-26 are preoccupying enough for the PSG defenders, who will have their hands full with him and the rest of Arsenal’s attack.

Paris Saint-Germain

Performances in Domestic Competitions in 2025-26

  • Ligue 1 ranking: 1st (76 points in 34 matches)

  • Coupe de France: Round of 32 (lost 1-0 at home vs Paris FC)

Performances in 2025-26 UEFA Europa League:

  • League stage finish: 11th (14 points in 8 matches, qualified for the playoff round)

  • Playoff round: 5-4 on aggregate vs AS Monaco

  • Round of 16: 8-2 on aggregate vs Chelsea FC

  • Quarterfinals: 4-0 on aggregate vs Liverpool FC

  • Semifinals: 6-5 on aggregate vs Bayern Munich

The 2025-26 UCL final marks PSG’s third UCL final and fifth European final in club history. Les Parisiens aim to win a consecutive UCL title; achieving it would make them the first club to win back-to-back UCL titles since Real Madrid claimed three straight from 2015-16 to 2017-18. PSG’s first three European finals appearances came in the 1995-96 European Cup Winners’s Cup (a 1-0 win against Austrian Bundesliga club SK Rapid Wien), the 1996-97 Cup Winners’ Cup (a 1-0 loss against Barcelona) and the 2019-20 UCL (a 1-0 loss against Bayern).

In Ligue 1 this season, PSG finished 2025-26 and secured their fifth consecutive Ligue 1 title, becoming only the second club after Olympique Lyonnais to achieve this feat. Despite leading the league in goals scored and fewest goals against, the campaign was less dominant than in previous season: PSG clinched the league title only on the penultimate matchday and subsequently lost their final league match 2-1 against local rivals Paris FC. Notably, top forwards Ousmane Dembélé, Désiré Doué and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia were not significant scoring contributors, combining for only 25 goals. Forward Bradley Barcola finished as the club’s top Ligue 1 scorer with 11 goals.

In UCL, however, Dembélé, Doué and Kvaratskhelia have showcased their world-class talent and scoring instincts, combining for 22 goals. As was the case last season, PSG will have played the maximum number of UCL matches, having been forced to play the playoff knockout round against league rivals AS Monaco after another mid-table finish in the league stage. Although their defence has not been stellar in UCL, PSG have scored 44 goals — the most among all 36 UCL participants this season and nearly double Arsenal’s 29.

The PSG player to watch in this matchup is forward Désiré Doué. Only 20 years old, Doué scored two goals in last season’s UCL final and has produced seven Ligue 1 goals and five UCL goals this season, ranking third on the team behind both Kvaratskhelia and Dembélé in both competitions. However, the French international earns his spotlight because he has the ideal balance of traits in a modern forward. As a natural right-winger, his matchup against Arsenal’s left-back — whether Riccardo Calafiori or Myles Lewis-Skelly — could be the biggest x-factor for PSG in this year’s final. Still, as alluded to earlier, Doué is only one component of the elite attacking machine orchestrated by PSG manager Luis Enrique.

Our Final Prediction

Based on UCL experience, previous head-to-head matchups, recent performances in all competitions and current injuries, we predict that PSG will win the 2025-26 UCL title. However, we predict that Arsenal will win the title if they score early and maintain a disciplined style of football throughout the remainder of the match.
